The tree of life is a tree of delusion (maya), with all its branches, leaves and flowers of maya. You can realise it as such when you do all acts as dedicated offerings for God. See Him as the sap through every cell as the Sun warms and builds every part. See Him in all, worship Him through all, for He is all. Engage in activity, but fill the activity with devotion: it is the devotion that sanctifies. A piece of paper is almost trash; but if a certificate is written on it, you value it and treasure it; it becomes a passport for promotion in life. It is the bhava (feeling behind) that matters, not the bahya (the external); the feeling, not the activity that is performed. At Tirupati or at Bhadrachalam you find only a stone shaped as an idol; as a stone, it is of little value. But, when feeling permeates it, when devotion transmutes it, the stone becomes the Supreme Treasure of the human mind. Der Baum des Lebens ist ein Baum der Täuschung (maya), mit all seinen Ästen, Blättern und Blüten der Maya. Ihr könnt ihn als solchen erkennen, wenn ihr alle Handlungen als hingebungsvolle Opfergaben für Gott tut. Seht ihn als den Saft in jeder Zelle, so wie die Sonne jeden Teil erwärmt und aufbaut. Seht ihn in allem, verehrt ihn durch alles, denn er ist alles. Übt euch in Aktivität, aber füllt die Aktivität mit Hingabe: es ist die Hingabe, die heiligt. Ein Stück Papier ist fast Müll; aber wenn ein Zertifikat darauf geschrieben ist, schätzt ihr es und hütet es; es wird zu einem Pass für den Aufstieg im Leben. Es ist das Bhava (das Gefühl dahinter), das zählt, nicht das Bahya (das Äußere); das Gefühl, nicht die Tätigkeit, die man ausführt. In Tirupati oder Bhadrachalam findet man nur einen Stein, der als Statue geformt ist; als Stein ist er von geringem Wert. Aber wenn er von Gefühlen durchdrungen ist, wenn er durch Hingabe umgewandelt wird, wird der Stein zum höchsten Schatz des menschlichen Geistes. Der Mensch kennt dieses Geheimnis nicht, jede seiner Handlungen in heilige Verehrung umzuwandeln, und so leidet er unter Enttäuschung und Kummer. – Sathya Sai, 11. Januar 1966.
