God incarnates to foster sadhus, it’s said. By sadhus, they do not mean the dwellers in Himalayan retreats; they mean the virtuous person who forms the inner reality of every one of you, the outer appearance being but a mask which is worn to delude yourself into esteem! Every one of you is a Sadhu, for you are prema swarupa, shanti swarupa, amruta swarupa (embodiment of bliss, peace and immortality). But, by allowing the crust of ego to grow thick and fast, the real nature is tarnished. By the action of Satsang (the company of God-minded persons), by systematic attention to self-control and self-improvement, man can overcome the delusion that makes him identify himself with the body and its needs and cravings! When you feed the cow with fermented gruel so that it may yield more milk, the milk emits an unpleasant smell. When man engrosses himself too much with the trifles of the world, his conduct and character become unpleasant. – Divine Discourse, Sep 07, 1966.

Gott inkarniert, um Sadhus zu fördern, heißt es. Mit Sadhus sind nicht die Bewohner von Himalaya-Retreats gemeint, sondern die tugendhafte Person, die die innere Wirklichkeit eines jeden von euch bildet, wobei die äußere Erscheinung nur eine Maske ist, die man trägt, um sich Ansehen vorzugaukeln! Jeder von euch ist ein Sadhu, denn ihr seid Prema Swarupa, Shanti Swarupa, Amruta Swarupa (Verkörperung von Glückseligkeit, Frieden und Unsterblichkeit). Aber wenn man zulässt, dass die Kruste des Ego dick und schnell wächst, wird die wahre Natur getrübt. Durch Satsang (die Gesellschaft gottgesinnter Menschen), durch systematische Aufmerksamkeit auf Selbstkontrolle und Selbstverbesserung kann der Mensch die Täuschung überwinden, die ihn dazu bringt, sich mit dem Körper und seinen Bedürfnissen und Begierden zu identifizieren! Wenn man die Kuh mit vergorenem Brei füttert, damit sie mehr Milch gibt, verströmt die Milch einen unangenehmen Geruch. Wenn der Mensch sich zu sehr mit den Belanglosigkeiten der Welt beschäftigt, werden sein Verhalten und sein Charakter unangenehm. – Sri Sathya Sai, 7. September 1966.
