All religions are unanimous in regarding the heart as the seat of the Divine. The Hindu scriptures have declared that the heart is the temple of God. The sacred Upanishads have referred to the heart as a cave in which the Divine dwells. It is stated in the Bible that the man with a pure heart can see God. The Muslims regard the heart as located between the two fingers of God. The Guru of the Sikhs, Nanak declared that only a man with a pure heart can be regarded as a true Sikh. In this way, the various faiths have affirmed that the heart is the abode of God. Many great souls have experienced the heart as a lotus. Although rooted in mire, growing up in muddy water, the lotus shines in purity. When the lotus opens its petals and looks up, it seems to say: “O Lord, please come and dwell in me.” Though born in mud it does not wallow in it. Surrounded by polluted water it is not polluted by it. This is the great lesson the lotus teaches man: “Though you are living in a corrupt world and are born in the sludge of an unrighteous society, you must turn your mind towards God and make your heart a shrine for God.” – Divine Discourse, Jul 14, 1984.

Alle Religionen sind sich darin einig, dass das Herz der Sitz des Göttlichen ist. Die Hindu-Schriften haben erklärt, dass das Herz der Tempel Gottes ist. In den heiligen Upanishaden wird das Herz als Höhle bezeichnet, in der das Göttliche wohnt. In der Bibel heißt es, dass der Mensch mit einem reinen Herzen Gott sehen kann. Die Muslime betrachten das Herz als zwischen den beiden Fingern Gottes gelegen. Der Guru der Sikhs, Nanak, erklärte, dass nur ein Mensch mit einem reinen Herzen als wahrer Sikh angesehen werden kann. Auf diese Weise haben die verschiedenen Glaubensrichtungen bekräftigt, dass das Herz der Wohnsitz Gottes ist. Viele große Seelen haben das Herz als eine Lotosblüte erfahren. Obwohl er im Schlamm verwurzelt ist und in schlammigem Wasser heranwächst, erstrahlt der Lotos in Reinheit. Wenn der Lotos seine Blütenblätter öffnet und nach oben schaut, scheint er zu sagen: ” O Herr, bitte komm und wohne in mir.” Obwohl er im Schlamm geboren wurde, suhlt er sich nicht darin. Obwohl er von verschmutztem Wasser umgeben ist, wird er nicht von diesem verschmutzt. Dies ist die große Lektion, die der Lotos den Menschen lehrt: “Obwohl ihr in einer verdorbenen Welt lebt und im Schlamm einer ungerechten Gesellschaft geboren seid, müsst ihr euren Geist auf Gott ausrichten und euer Herz zu einem Schrein für Gott machen.” – Sri Sathya Sai, 14.
