People believe that incarnations of God happen for only two reasons: punishment of the wicked and protection of the righteous. But these represent only one aspect of the task. Granting of peace and joy, of a sense of fulfillment to seekers who have striven long — this too is His task! The Avatar, or The Form Incarnate, is only the concretization of the yearning of seekers. It is the solidified sweetness of the devotion of godly aspirants. The Formless assumes the form for the sake of these aspirants and seekers. They are the prime cause. The cow secretes milk for the sustenance of the calf. That is the chief beneficiary. But, as we see, others also benefit from that milk. So too, though the devotees (bhaktas) are the prime cause, and their joy and sustenance the prime purpose, other incidental benefits also accrue, such as the fostering of dharma, the suppression of evil, and the overwhelming of the wicked. – Ch 1, Bhagavatha Vahini.

Die Menschen glauben, dass die Inkarnationen Gottes nur aus zwei Gründen geschehen: Bestrafung der Bösen und Schutz der Gerechten. Aber das ist nur ein Aspekt der Aufgabe. Den Suchenden, die sich lange bemüht haben, Frieden und Freude zu schenken, ein Gefühl der Erfüllung zu geben – auch das ist seine Aufgabe! Der Avatar oder die inkarnierte Form ist nur die Konkretisierung der Sehnsucht der Suchenden. Er ist die verfestigte Süße der Hingabe von gottesfürchtigen Aspiranten. Das Formlose nimmt die Form um dieser Aspiranten und Suchenden willen an. Sie sind die Hauptursache. Die Kuh sondert Milch ab, um ihr Kalb zu ernähren. Das ist der Hauptnutznießer. Aber, wie wir sehen, profitieren auch andere von dieser Milch. Auch wenn die Gottgeweihten (bhaktas) die Hauptursache sind und ihre Freude und ihr Lebenserhalt der Hauptzweck sind, ergeben sich auch andere, zufällige Vorteile, wie die Förderung des Dharma, die Unterdrückung des Bösen und die Überwindung der Bösen. – Bhagavatha Vahini, Kapitel 1. © Sri Sathya Sai Media Centre | Sri Sathya Sai Sadhana Trust – Publications Division
